The following is a list of recommended locations that I’ve scouted and with which I’m familiar. I try to recommend locations that offer lots of variety in background scenes for portrait sessions, as well being family friendly. I will add more locations as I scout them. The list is not comprehensive and, of course, locations are only suggestions. You may choose whichever location you would like. During warm summer months, parking is very limited at these locations so early shooting times are suggested.

This is a large location with lots of trees, plants and flowers. There is a paved walking trail and lots of varying nature style scenes from which to shoot. Spring is an especially great time to shoot here when the trees and flowers are in bloom and provide lots of beautiful color. Fall is a nice time as well although colored foliage is not as abundant as some other locations. Since the location is so large, there will be lots of walking involved so it may not be the most ideal place for families with very young children unless they can be carried. On-site parking is available.
Carkeek has hiking trails, playground with big open fields as well as a beachfront. Train tracks also run between the upper level playground and lower level beach with a bridge allowing you to stand right above the tracks. The location is a good size but compact enough to get around easily. On-site parking is available.
Discovery Park is a very large location that requires lots of walking to take full advantage of all it has to offer. There is a bit of a hilly, paved walking trail surrounded by forests and open fields that eventually leads to a sandy beach and lighthouse all against the backdrop of tall cliffs. This location offers lots of scene variety. On-site parking is available.
This iconic Seattle park has beautiful city views, grassy hills and, of course, the gas plant. This location has a more urban look and is not very large. I would recommend this location more for couples or families with older children, particularly during the golden hour when shoots can be scheduled 1-1.5 hours before sunset. On-site parking is available.
This popular location features one of the nicest sandy beaches in the city. There are big expanses of beach, grassy open field, trees and a large playground. It’s a good size location and easy to get around. During summer months it becomes very crowded and parking is nearly impossible to find so very early shoot times are encouraged. During winter months, the beach is easier to access. On-site parking is available.
This location is large and features very different areas such as a sports field, playground area, pebbly beachfront and boat launch. Each area is separated by roads so using multiple locations would require getting into a car during a session. The pebbly beachfront is a nice location and includes a walking trail, sculpture garden and hill where you can oftentimes see kite fliers. On-site parking is available.
Located in the downtown area, Myrtle Edwards Park is adjacent to Olympic Sculpture Park. The park offers a paved walking trail and runs aside a railroad track with waterfront to the south and city backdrop to the north. This location offers lots of varying looks including small pebbled beach areas, green space, and city views. Because the property is so long and narrow, there will be lots of walking involved. There is no onsite parking but there is plenty of free street parking close by on weekends.
Seward Park is a large location with a 2.4 miles of paved walking trail. Adjacent to Lake Washington, there are forests with dirt trails, pebbly beachfront and plenty of foliage. It also houses a playground area, providing lots of variety in scenes. Because the location is so large, there will be lots of walking. On-site parking is available.
Located in the Capitol Hill area, Volunteer Park hosts a Conservatory, Asian Art Museum, as well as plenty of open fields and foliage. There are a variety of scenes if you’re looking for a lots of different looks. The location is a good size but not too large that its unmanageable with young children. There is also a playground to give kids a chance to play should they need a break. On-site parking is available.
This is a small location but features beautiful gardens, foliage and fountains, including a gazebo. Although small, it is feature abundant and has a good amount of scene variety. This location would be ideal for couples or families with very young children who prefer to stay in a limited, enclosed space. Adjacent to the zoo, there is either paid parking on-site or free street parking nearby.
This is a very small location and has some nice features but it looks like it required a bit of maintenance when I visited in the fall. There is a center fountain, trellises, small waterfalls and a little bridge. Although small, there are enough features to provide plenty of pretty backdrops for photos. The Gardens is adjacent to a community center and located within a larger park with paved walking trails so there are plenty of opportunities to shoot elsewhere should there be time. There is on-site parking.
This is a moderate sized location with a small Japanese style garden, forest like trails, gardens and a small waterfall. The gravel trails can be slightly hilly but mainly run through the forest area while the main garden area is not large and easily manageable with young children. On-site parking is available. There is a photography fee at this location. Please contact me or the gardens for details.
This popular photography location is moderately sized and includes large expanses of hilly grass, benches and a boardwalk that run through wetlands. There’s a backdrop of trees and a paved walking trail. Within a few minutes drive is also Heritage Park and Doris Cooper Houghton Park which offer more scene variations. On-site parking is available.
This farm is an ideal location for those wanting a more country look for their photos. The farm is open year round with animal viewing from 9:30-3:30 and surrounding areas open from dawn till dusk. There is a gravel walking trail, fenced areas and tons of gorgeous wood paneled barns in painted in white, red and natural. There are also a couple of small bridges that would make pretty spots for photos. Immediately outside the farm is a playground in case your children need a little break from the session as well as a large open grassy field. On-site parking is available. This site requires a booking fee. Contact me or the farm directly for further inquiry.
This small location is more of a beach than a park with a forest area and stream leading to the beach. There is a bridge connecting the parking lot and beach area with railroad tracks running between the two. The beach would be the main area where the session would take place and there would not require much walking. On-site parking is available.
Edmonds Marina Beach Park is a moderately large property that includes a beach, playground, and marina. There are plenty of varying scenes and some moderate walking is involved to get to the Marina from the beach. There is a very small parking lot by the beach but a larger lot by the marina.
This park is actually a beach and is located next to the Mukilteo Ferry. There is a moderately sized beach area, small playground and lighthouse. It would be easily manageable with young children. This location tends to get very busy during the summer. On-site parking is available.
This location is outside the mileage radius that I cover (it’s 50 miles outside of Seattle) so an additional fee is required plus the booking fee and admission this venue charges. It is, however, worth the drive, since this venue is typically used for weddings. There is a beautiful brick building (former house), lookout, arbor, small formal gardens and pool. There are also plenty of beautiful foliage and flowers to serve as a backdrop and the location has on-site parking.
