Many of us go through life feeling like there is something fundamentally wrong with us. We’re unsure of where this feeling really comes from so we make up reasons to explain why which turn into stories about who we think we are.

I am not smart enough.
I am not confident enough.
I am not skinny enough.
I am not interesting enough.

I am not …… enough.

This feeling of something being wrong with us and the stories and beliefs we weave in our heads come from feeling like we shouldn’t feel the way we do or be the way we are. I should be happy or be a better version of myself, we think, and then assume there’s something wrong when we’re not. We only allow ourselves to have “positive” feelings or believe we should know or have all the answers or always be the best version of ourselves. We suffer and struggle not because we aren’t these things. We suffer because we beat ourselves up and feel guilt and shame about feeling what we feel and being who we are. Give yourself permission to be. Embrace what is, accept who you are and embrace yourself as you are.

Being our true selves isn’t about being perfect. It’s about accepting ourselves as flawed and accepting that these things are what make us who we are. They are what make us unique, they are what make us human and they are what us human. Only when we accept this wholeheartedly can we let go of the struggle and learn to really love ourselves. Unconditionally. Unapologetically. And that’s ultimately how we show up in the world as our most authentic selves and be the women we are meant to be.

You are worthy. You are whole. You are not broken. There is nothing wrong with you.
